A California man accused of ripping off retirement accounts has been arrested after an investigation by Lincolnshire police and other authorities.
Kelvin J. Burt, 26, of the 2200 block of 83rd Avenue, Oakland, Calif., was arrested Tuesday, Dec. 2, on Lake County arrest warrants for aggravated identity theft and money laundering.
According to Lincolnshire investigator Adam Hyde, Burt is an employee of a firm contracted by Aon Hewitt in Lincolnshire. Through that work, Burt gained access to Aon Hewitt clients’ retirement accounts. Hyde said Burt tampered with at least two accounts, stealing more than $100,000 out of them.
Lincolnshire investigated the incidents with help from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the police departments of San Jose and Sacramento. The Santa Clara County Jail held him on a $1.5 million bond, and he waived his extradition rights, so he is expected to appear in Waukegan court soon.
